    Connect your agent

    Add your first site

The domain decides which pages may send events, so it must match where the tracker runs.

    Standard metrics

    Custom metrics

    Choose shared metrics

Choose up to six metrics. Combine only events that measure the same outcome. Totals count event occurrences, not people or revenue.

    Your sites

Every site in this account over the selected period. Click one to open it on its own.

    Monitors

    Checks

Find out when your tracking breaks. A check emails every verified member of this workspace when an event you rely on stops arriving while people are still visiting, or when the same order is recorded twice. It emails once when the problem starts and once when it clears. Checks run every five minutes, and your agent can read them too.

    Add a check

Example: no signup in 24 hours while there were 100 or more engaged visits. A quiet site is not flagged, because no signups on a quiet day is normal. Engaged visits are people who scrolled, tapped, typed or stayed 15 seconds, so a wave of automated page loads cannot set off or hide an alert. The first result comes after one full look-back period.

Example: two purchase events with the same order_id usually mean the event fired twice, so revenue is counted twice. Send the ID as text on every event, and use an ID that should only happen once, like an order number, not a customer ID.

    Build your dashboard

This page starts empty and holds only the charts you ask for. Tell your coding agent what you want to see, in your own words, and the chart appears here. It uses the same numbers as the rest of StepMetrics and follows the period you pick above.

Your agent needs the StepMetrics MCP server, set up from . If an agent you connected earlier says it is not allowed to change charts, connect it again: older setup keys could only read.

    Ideas for another chart

Ask your agent for any of these, or to change, reorder or remove a chart above.

    What to do about this

Reads the numbers on this page and suggests what is worth acting on. Aggregate counts only - no visitor, session or address data leaves this server.

    Pick a site

Navigation paths and the event stream follow visits through one site, so they need a single site rather than All sites. Choose one in the site menu above.

    Navigation paths

How visits move through the site, one page at a time. Click a page to see where those visits went next. Reloading the same page is not a step.

    Event stream

Events matching this site, period and filters, newest first, with the visit each belongs to. Click a visitor or a visit to follow just them.

    Top sources

Where visits came from. Click to filter.

    Top pages

Pageviews, and how many visitors saw each.

    Channels

Every source grouped by kind. Click to filter.

    Networks

Who owns the address each visit came from. Cloud and hosting networks are where automation runs.

    How far people read

How far down each page people scrolled and how long it was on screen. Click a page to see which parts of it were read, and how people who left the site from it compare with people who went on.

    Page speed

How fast pages loaded and responded for the people viewing them, measured in their own browsers. Each figure is the 75th percentile, the point Core Web Vitals are judged at: three in four views were at least this fast.

    Outbound links

Clicks on links to other sites.

    File downloads

Clicks on links to files: PDFs, zips, installers and anything marked to download.

    Pages not found

Pages people reached that answered with an error, such as 404 not found, and the link that took them there. A page on your own site in “Linked from” is a broken link you can fix.

    When people visit

Visits by day of the week and hour they began. Darker is busier.

    Returning visitors

Browsers that visited for the first time in this period, by where they came from, and how many came back within 7 and within 30 days. A rate counts only browsers whose 7 or 30 days are over.

    How often people come back

Visits from people here for the first time and from people who had been before, how many times each person came in this period, and how long they had been away. Click New or Returning to filter every page by it.

    Paid clicks

Visits carrying an ad network’s own click tag, so you can separate what you paid for. “No ad click tag” is not the same as organic: an ad click that lost its tag lands there too, so read that row as an upper bound on free traffic rather than a measurement of it.

    Campaign mediums

From utm_medium on links you tagged yourself.

    Campaign keywords

From utm_term: the keyword an ad was bought on.

    Campaign content

From utm_content: which version of an ad or link was clicked.

    Countries

Derived from the recorded client IP.

    Operating systems

    Regions

    Cities

    Languages

The language each browser asks for first.

    Screen sizes

Width by height, in the pixels a page is laid out in.

    Visitor list

Everyone who visited in this period, one row per person. A browser is recognised by its visitor cookie across days; a visit without the cookie is one row per day. Click a row to see every visit.
